Meet your guide and small group at the centrally located Kyoto Station. You’ll get a properly sized bike and helmet, and listen to an orientation and safety briefing. Note that this tour covers about 9 miles (15 kilometers) and requires a moderate level of fitness and cycling ability.
Once you’re comfortable, pedal off into the former imperial city. Take in the scenery while traveling like a local with your guide in the lead.
Head to Kamo River for panoramic downtown views, stopping at the sacred gate of the Heian-Jingu Shrine for some photos. Hear about the history of replicated structures from Kyoto’s past.
Next, wind through alleys and across canals to Nanzenji Temple, where you’ll learn about classic Zen Buddhist architecture. Your last stop is at the Path of Philosophy, lined with hundreds of iconic cherry trees.
At the tour’s conclusion, return to Kyoto Station.
