Knuckles Trek

Corbett’s Gap Viewpoint- This is a very famous place in Knuckles Mountain range. This is a deep vally between Knuckles Mountain range and also a rain shadow area. Sphinx Rock-Proceeding from the Corbets Gap View point on the main road towards Loolwatte, "Gombaniya" Peak- The highest peak, "Gombaniya" is 1906 Mts. or 6248 Ft. high. The main water streams starting from Knuckles range are Mimure Oya, Kalu Ganga and Kote Ganga.

As you get closer, you’ll notice the scenery starting to change from palm trees, rice fields and tropical foliage to cloud forest, mountain forest, and verdant plateaus of pygmy forest. You will be accompanied on your trek by a guide who knows the area intimately as well as one or two assistants (depending on your group size) who will serve as porters for the hike. The terrain is fairly smooth and perhaps the most challenging aspect during the rainy season will be slippery tracks and leeches.

You’ll wind your way across the grassland area of the Knuckles and in towards the cloud forests, finally reaching a plateau that offers stunning panoramic vistas across the forest. then continue on to a hidden waterfall.

You will be transferred from Kandy 22 kms on Mahinyangana road and then another 18 kms inland by a van where you will be starting the trek through home spice gardens, vegetable fields, rice fields, tea plantation, pigmy forests and plateaus. The trek is approximately about 8 kms one way and its 16 kms in total. At the end of the trail you would be able to swim at a base of a nice waterfall. You are expected to encounter with species such as Deer, Barking deer, Deer monkey and various types of Lizards. In this trek you will be climbing from 1200 ft to 1850 ft. On the way back you will be able to do some bird watching.
