K'gari (Fraser Island) 3-Day Getaway

The whole experience was brilliant, Andrew (aka Andy) did a great tour & he was really knowledgeable and engaging, i highly recommend this tour. I booked the 2 day tour but with the additional night at on the 1st night, so I was on the island for 2 nights in total. I'm really glad the 1st night was in the Kingfisher bay hotel as it was beautiful & cosy. The second hotel, as part of tour was ok, but sadly I wouldn't choose to go back to the 2nd hotel. Asva note there was some confusion over the first night as I was picked up at 7.45am but the ticket said it didn't start until 2.40pm but nothing actually started until the morning as the 1st night was free time once arrived at the hotel. Also I was receiving emails to tell me to ensure I booked the ferry, thankfully when I sent a message it was cleared up but something to be aware of, the 1st night wasn't very clear with what was due to happen. The tour itself took us some lovely places on the island, the island is so varied. Some of us even got to do a flight over the island (for a small fee) it was 100% worth. I took part in a 3 Day K’Gari Getaway tour in June 2026. This is my review: Day 1. Mainland Arrival, ferry to island and night at Kingfisher Bay Resort This went very smoothly and Kingfisher was an excellent place to stay. Good rooms, food and a great environment. Day 2, 3 travelling. This aspect was truly wonderful. The itinerary was good, the bus itself was nearly new and impressive. Taylah was our guide. She was warm, cheerful and kept us informed and amused throughout. In addition to that she was a very good driver on some challenging tracks. In summary she was a total delight. Day 2 accommodation K’Gari Beach Resort. After the excellence of Kingfisher and Taylah’s bus journeys I found this resort a shocking disappointment. The rooms that were assigned to us were very basic without heating or cooling. I had to search out a heater from the management. The restaurant was closed for refurbishing though we were fed adequately, in a basic setting. There was no entertainment or activities available. I was reduced to my IPad until 7.45pm when the internet failed. Management explained that internet was unreliable in the block to which we were assigned – a pathetic explanation in this Starlink connected age. Overall, especially when compared to the class of Kingfisher and the bus, my experience here was awful.

We enjoyed the day tour from Kingfisher Bay Resort going to Lake McKenzie, Central Station, the wreck on the eastern beach and Eli Creek. Plenty to see and do and great value for money. It is the best way to view all the hot spots in a short time. The tour guide, Taylah, was exceptional, providing a wealth of useful information on the history and the local environment in an informative and friendly manner. The trip would not have been the same without her - a real asset to the organisation and to the guests on this tour.

Would highly recommend this tour if you’re planning on visiting Fraser Island. You get to experience all the best highlights of the island and to top it off we had an amazing tour guide in Keith. Aside from his extensive knowledge of the island and its previous inhabitants he was genuine nice guy who kept us entertained for the duration of the tour. Incase you’re also feeling like you’re missing out by travelling on a bus, no need to worry as Keith made you feel like you were in suv with his driving skills. An absolute must if visiting
