Karlstejn Castle Bike Trip from Prague

Travel independently to the starting point in central Prague. Your guide will maintain an easy and steady pace along the pleasant, flat 18-mile (30-kilometer) route, so the tour is suitable for cyclists of all abilities. Follow scenic roads through the picturesque Cesky Kras region, tracing the banks of the Vltava River and Berounka River along the way. Make regular stops to take photos, arriving after a half-day of cyling in the traditional village of Karlstejn, the home of Karlstejn Castle. Break for lunch (own expense) at one of the restaurants, and then make your way to the hilltop, Gothic castle. As you approach, ogle the turrets and walls that crown the summit and rise up over dense forests. Head inside (own expense) and enjoy a guided tour of the 650-year-old castle, founded by Holy Roman Emperor elect, Charles IV, in 1348. As you walk, hear how he used Karlstejn as a summer retreat and to store his coronation jewels. View the interiors and treasures, including a replica of St Wenceslas’ crown and a gallery of portraits of Czech monarchs. Learn about Charles IV's life here, and see the Chapel of the Holy Cross, home to a series of exquisite panel paintings. After your castle tour, travel back to Prague by train, where your tour finishes in the early evening.
