Today we went on the excursion to Isla Contoy and Isla Mujeres with Ocean Tours Mexico and we can say that it has been, without a doubt, one of the best days of our trip through Mexico. From the very beginning, everything was perfectly organized. Daniel, our guide, and Sofía, our photographer, came to pick us up at the hotel on time. During the entire trip to the port, they offered us water, juices, fresh fruit, and cereal bars, all in perfect condition and prepared to start the day well. Daniel explained everything we were going to do in great detail: schedules, rules, recommendations, and a lot of interesting facts. The explanations were in Spanish and English and, furthermore, we were surprised to learn that he also speaks Portuguese and French. From the first moment, he conveyed incredible energy and enthusiasm. Upon arriving at the port, they offered us coffee, ginger tea, and even Dramamine for anyone who might get seasick. There we met the rest of the team: Alex and Cristian, deckhands and cooks; Carlos and Jorge, guides; and Rodolfo “Teacher”, our captain. During the navigation to Isla Contoy, we learned a lot about the area: the coral reef, the currents, the depths, the geography, the geology, and, above all, the importance of conserving this natural park. They explained the island's protection rules to us, the importance of not leaving trash, not polluting the water with sunscreen, and respecting both the animals and the plants. And the best part is that it didn't seem like a memorized explanation. It was clear that they really know, respect, and love the place they are talking about. There were always drinks available on board, good music, and a spectacular atmosphere. Once on Isla Contoy, we were able to enjoy an absolutely paradisiacal beach and get to know some of the island's fauna: hermit crabs, starfish, and we even had the luck of seeing a turtle. While we were enjoying ourselves, the team was preparing the food. Grilled fish and chicken, side dishes, and fruit for dessert, all freshly prepared and really delicious. Throughout the morning, they were attentive to us, constantly asking us if everything was going well. And I want to especially highlight Sofía, who was taking photographs during practically the entire excursion, always with a smile, good humor, and a very approachable manner. She didn't stop looking for special moments so that we could take home incredible memories of the day. After eating, we took an optional tour of the interior of Isla Contoy, visiting the highest point, the lagoon, and the museum. Those who preferred to stay and rest on the beach could do so without any problem. During the tour, they explained a lot to us about the birds, the vegetation, the history, and the curiosities of the island. Afterward, we headed to Isla Mujeres, stopping first to snorkel next to the coral reef. Before entering the water, they explained the rules and the precautions we should take perfectly. Snorkeling was completely voluntary, and at no time did we feel pressured. And it was spectacular. 🐠🌊 We saw a shark, a cuttlefish, parrotfish, a manta ray, and many other fish. In addition, several team members were in the water with us, watching over us, helping us, and making sure that we were all okay. And Sofía, once again, was taking photographs from inside the water. Afterward we arrived at Isla Mujeres, where we had an hour of free time to walk around, swim, and enjoy the island. Finally we returned to the port of Cancun and from there to our hotels, with music and the same good atmosphere with which we had started the day. But there is something that I want to highlight especially because I think it says a lot about this team. During the excursion, a person in the group got seasick. Absolutely all the workers were looking out for her, helping her, attending to her, and constantly asking her how she was feeling until the end of the day. That for me goes much further than doing a job well. It demonstrates human quality. Daniel, Sofía, Alex, Cristian, Carlos, Jorge, and Rodolfo “Teacher”: thank you for making a day of excursion turn into a memory that we are going to keep forever. We have been very lucky with the team we got. Professional, attentive, fun, approachable, and, above all, people who convey authentic passion for their work.
