Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2 Days and 1 Night

Summary Description

Day 1Cusco - Aguas Calientes

We will pick up our travelers from your hotel at 6:20 am and we will go to Poroy station, located 20 minutes outside the city of Cusco. From here we will take a train to Km 104, where we will do our whole walk. After crossing to the south side of the Urubamba River, we will see the Chachabamba Archaeological Group. Discovered in 1940, it is believed that it was a guard house that protected the entrance to Machu Picchu, being a point of control along the old Camino Real. Those who choose the 4-day Inca Trail do not pass these ruins. From Chachabamba we will start to climb the mountain on the road to Wiñaywayna, four hours on foot from our original starting point. On the way we will enter the forest and cross a stream before entering the open meadows for a couple of hours. Going back into the forest, we will go to a waterfall before reaching the terraces, houses and baths of the Inca ruins of the Wiñaywayna archaeological site. After the guided tour, we will continue for two more hours, winding around the mountainside and climbing the 50 stone steps that will lead us to the Intipunku, (Sun Gate). This segment of the route is the same as the 4-day Inca Trail. From here we will have an impressive view of the archaeological site of Machu Picchu. From here we will descend to the small town of Machu Picchu Pueblo (colloquially known as Aguas Calientes), where we will settle into our reserved hotel.

Day 2 Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

We will have breakfast early before going to catch the first bus heading to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu. The bus takes about 25 minutes, then we will walk to the Sun Gate or the Intipunku to appreciate the sunrise at Machu Picchu. The duration of our visit lasts approximately 2 hours, during which we will explore the impressive ruins, while the guide explains the history, purpose and meaning of the ruins. The tour ends at the famous Solar Clock or Intihuatana, outside the Temple of the Sun. Then, you will have free time to explore the ruins independently and take all the photos you want. At 1:00 p.m. we will take the bus back to the city of Aguas Calientes, so that you have time for lunch. (This meal is not included in the tour). We will leave Aguas Calientes by train to the station of Ollantaytambo or Poroy, where our transport will be ready to carry out the city of Cusco.
