It would take multiple lifetimes to see all that Rome has to offer, so we've distilled our most-requested sights into a single day of sightseeing - plus, added private, air-conditioned transport between major sites to make things even more comfortable and efficient. It may not cover everything - but it's a very good start.
You'll begin the day overlooking the Roman Forum, learning the history of this once-bustling commercial center and the Empire that it controlled. Then you'll head over to Rome's most iconic symbol; the Colosseum. Skipping the long entrance lines, you'll spend a full hour inside, hearing the story of this immense arena and the gladiators that once fought here. Of course there was a lot more happening here than movies would suggest. Your guide has the full story on the many uses of the Colosseum; from execution ground to dramatic stage.
From there you'll stroll into the historic city center to see some of Rome's most impressive public sights. Mingle with the street artists in the shadow of Bernini's fountain in Piazza Navona; admire the giant oculus in the dome of the Pantheon; and, of course, throw a coin (or two) over your shoulder at the Trevi Fountain to ensure you'll make it back to Rome.
After that, your guide will give you recommendations for lunch spots before reconvening at the Vatican. Here you'll save hours with skip-the-line tickets, diving directly into the Vatican Museums to discover some of the world's most important art. From treasured ancient artifacts like the Apollo Belvedere to immense Renaissance frescoes, you'll soak up thousands of years of art and history. With your expert guide on hand you'll also hear the stories that bring these masterpieces, and the men who created them, to life.
The highlight of the Museums is, of course, the Sistine Chapel with its incredible frescoes painted by Michelangelo. Before you visit this room your guide will teach you all about Michelangelo and give you a handout with details of the frescoes and what to look for. This way you'll have 15 - 20 minutes of peace to soak up what is possibly the world's greatest work of art.
Encompassing all of the most popular sights in Rome and covering thousands of years of history - with private, air conditioned transport between sites - this tour will give you an unprecedented scope and understanding of the Eternal City while showing you some of her most impressive attractions. You'll also save hours of time otherwise spent waiting in line or navigating a foreign city: so you're guaranteed to make the best of every moment you have in Rome.

- Short Description
- It would take multiple lifetimes to see all that Rome has to offer, so we've distilled our most-requested sights into a single day of sightseeing - plus, added private, air-conditioned transport between major sites to make things even more comfortable and efficient. It may not cover everything - but it's a very good start.
- You'll begin the day overlooking the Roman Forum, learning the history of this once-bustling commercial center and the Empire that it controlled.
- From there you'll stroll into the historic city center to see some of Rome's most impressive public sights. Mingle with the street artists in the shadow of Bernini's fountain in Piazza Navona; admire the giant oculus in the dome of the Pantheon; and, of course, throw a coin (or two) over your shoulder at the Trevi Fountain to ensure you'll make it back to Rome.
- After that, your guide will give you recommendations for lunch spots before reconvening at the Vatican.
- The highlight of the Museums is, of course, the Sistine Chapel with its incredible frescoes painted by Michelangelo. Before you visit this room your guide will teach you all about Michelangelo and give you a handout with details of the frescoes and what to look for. This way you'll have 15 - 20 minutes of peace to soak up what is possibly the world's greatest work of art.
- From the Sistine Chapel you'll enjoy one last benefit of a guided tour: a special door into St. Peter's Basilica that allows you to skip the infamously long entrance lines. They'll walk you through and give you an introduction to the huge church and its artworks (you can't miss Bernini's altar or Michelangelo's sculpture), then you'll be left to explore its wonders for yourself.
- Encompassing all of the most popular sights in Rome and covering thousands of years of history - with private, air conditioned transport between sites - this tour will give you an unprecedented scope and understanding of the Eternal City while showing you some of her most impressive attractions. You'll also save hours of time otherwise spent waiting in line or navigating a foreign city: so you're guaranteed to make the best of every moment you have in Rome.
From August 6th, all Italy sites we visit will require clients and guides alike to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test completed within 48 hours prior to entry. They will also require a legal form of ID matching the vaccination or test results. This does not apply to children under 12. You can read more about it here.

- Short Description
- From August 6th, all Italy sites we visit will require clients and guides alike to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test completed within 48 hours prior to entry. They will also require a legal form of ID matching the vaccination or test results. This does not apply to children under 12. You can read more about it here.
We start at the Colosseum, bypassing the long lines with all-inclusive tickets that bring you straight into the ancient world’s greatest sports arena. Your guide will give you the harrowing tales of gladiators and martyrs that have made the Colosseum famous and also explain their political and social importance to ancient Romans.
Next you’ll stroll over to the Roman Forum to learn how it functioned as the beating heart of Rome’s all-encompassing empire. Instead of slogging through the crowds inside the Forum (we don’t have much time, after all!) your guide will lead you to a stunning overlook. From there you can’t take in the entire Forum including the Senate House, and Temple of the Vestal Virgins. It will be easy to imagine how the Forum must have appeared 2,000 years ago as you hear the stories of war, politics, economics, and religion that shaped the ancient city.
No walk through ancient Rome is complete without stepping into the Pantheon. This nearly 2,000-year-old building has the largest un-reinforced concrete dome in the world. As you goggle up at it from inside, you’ll hear the story of how it was built and why it has inspired so many other buildings, from St. Peter’s Basilica to the U.S. Capitol Building.
Jumping ahead in history, stroll through streets made famous by films like “Roman Holiday”, stopping at the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona for a few glamorous photo ops.
After a break for lunch your local expert will accompany you in a taxi or private bus to the Vatican just to make sure you don’t have any transport issues. Once you’ve skipped the long lines of people waiting to get in with your all-inclusive ticket you’ll meet your Vatican expert and delve into one of the world’s greatest collections of art.
Our specially-curated Vatican tour highlights the best works in the huge (some might say “overwhelming”) collections and give you a broad understanding and appreciation of what you’re seeing. Along the way we’ll take in the sculpture galleries and the world-famous ‘Laocoön Group’.
The day ends contemplating Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. From there you can choose between extending your stay in the chapel and the Vatican Museums, or skip the lines and enter St. Peter’s Basilica directly from the Sistine Chapel. We recommend that you follow your guide since it will save you a walk of 30 - 40 minutes and, during busy times, over an hour of waiting in line.
With a group of 18 people or fewer, an expert local guide and no time wasted waiting in lines this tour guarantees unfettered access to Rome’s greatest historical and cultural treasures. The only group tour offering this unique itinerary that combines Rome’s historic center with the Vatican and private transfers, if you only have a day to see it all, this is the ultimate way to experience the epic grandeur of the Eternal City.

- Short Description
- We start at the Colosseum, bypassing the long lines with all-inclusive tickets that bring you straight into the ancient world’s greatest sports arena. Your guide will give you the harrowing tales of gladiators and martyrs that have made the Colosseum famous and also explain their political and social importance to ancient Romans.
- Next you’ll stroll over to the Roman Forum to learn how it functioned as the beating heart of Rome’s all-encompassing empire.
- No walk through ancient Rome is complete without stepping into the Pantheon. This nearly 2,000-year-old building has the largest un-reinforced concrete dome in the world. As you goggle up at it from inside, you’ll hear the story of how it was built and why it has inspired so many other buildings, from St. Peter’s Basilica to the U.S. Capitol Building.
- Jumping ahead in history, stroll through streets made famous by films like “Roman Holiday”, stopping at the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona for a few glamorous photo ops.
- After a break for lunch your local expert will accompany you in a taxi or private bus to the Vatican just to make sure you don’t have any transport issues. Once you’ve skipped the long lines of people waiting to get in with your all-inclusive ticket you’ll meet your Vatican expert and delve into one of the world’s greatest collections of art.
- Our specially-curated Vatican tour highlights the best works in the huge (some might say “overwhelming”) collections and give you a broad understanding and appreciation of what you’re seeing. Along the way we’ll take in the sculpture galleries and the world-famous ‘Laocoön Group’.
- The day ends contemplating Michelangelo’s frescoes in the Sistine Chapel.
- With a group of 18 people or fewer, an expert local guide and no time wasted waiting in lines this tour guarantees unfettered access to Rome’s greatest historical and cultural treasures.

- It is now time to head over to the Vatican, where we will enjoy a short brake for lunch. After a break for lunch your local expert will accompany you in a taxi or bus to the Vatican just to make sure you don’t have any transport issues. Once you’ve skipped the long lines of people waiting to get in with your all-inclusive ticket you’ll meet your Vatican expert and delve into one of the world’s greatest collections of art.

Please note that the tour meeting time is 15 minutes prior to the start time. No refunds or re-bookings can be provided for late arrivals or no shows after tour commencement or departure.
Please note, this tour is wheelchair accessible with some difficulties. We advise clients to contact Walks Customer Service Team to make further arrangements.
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate guests with strollers on this tour.
Please ensure that all members of your party have a valid ID on them on the day of the visit. This is particularly important for guests who have qualified for child reduction.
There is a new rule at the Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill that only small backpacks and regular-size handbags are allowed inside. Guests with larger bags and big pointy umbrellas will not be allowed to enter (there are no storage facilities) and all guests must now pass through a security check before entering the Colosseum.
The Colosseum has changed its admission policy to ensure that only 3,000 people are allowed within the amphitheater at any given time, meaning much less crowding during busy periods. Although our tickets are pre-booked with Skip the Line access, this may mean a slight delay on entering if capacity has already been reached. We expect that the instances of this will be limited but ask for your patience if you travel on a busy day and are affected by this unavoidable circumstance. In all, it should make for a much nicer experience for all (and longer general access lines!).
St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel are holy places and thus, the attire must be appropriate for the visit. Both men and women are asked to wear clothing that covers at least the shoulders and knees. Walks cannot be held responsible for denied entry due to improper dress. Please note that, since the chapel is at the end of the Vatican visit, it is sufficient to bring extra coverings with you and put them on before our entrance to the Vatican.
Your tour will end in St. Peter's Basilica where you will have skip-the-line entrance to get inside, though there is no guided explanation inside the church.

We’ll meet you at Termini station in the morning to make sure you get on the right train. As Rome recedes behind us, one of our friendly, energetic tour leaders will give you a brief introduction to your destination: the jewel in the crown of the Castelli Romani region, the town of Castel Gandolfo, which sits overlooking the crater lake of an extinct volcano. For 400 years the breezy little town hosted the Popes during the hot Roman summer and today we are going to see both the gardens and the Apostolic Palace that they built here.
Our first stop is the Barberini Garden, which you’ll explore on an electric train with an audio guide. Built on the remains of Emperor Domitian’s palace, the gardens are a unique mix of Roman ruins and carefully cultivated flora; verdant terraces filled with Cedars, Cypress, and Holm Oaks mixed with geometric flower beds that erupt into bloom in the spring and summer. Although these gardens, which were a favorite of John Paul II, have been cultivated since the 17th century, they have only been opened to the public in the last few years making this an experience some 400 years in the making.
After the gardens, we’ll take you directly to the Apostolic Palace, which was the summer home of the Popes before the pontificate of Pope Francis. Walking through its corridors with an official Vatican audio guide, you’ll take in beautiful architecture by Carlo Maderno, portraits of past Popes, and real examples of some of their most vibrant ceremonial garb. Along the way, you’ll gain a greater understanding of the ways that the papacy has changed over the centuries.
After you’ve seen the best of the Apostolic Palace, we’ll orient you in the town of Castel Gandolfo then give you some free time to get lunch and do a little self-guided sightseeing. If you have any questions about what to see or where to eat, don’t hesitate to ask - that’s why we’re here.
Finally, we’ll meet back up and hop on the train back to Rome, where we’ll leave you at Roma Termini Station.
