Full Description
  • The vastness of the Met collection is what makes it special, so we’ve carefully planned an itinerary to show you a broad spectrum of art, sculpture, jewels, artifacts and even architecture. Traveling in small groups of 15 people or fewer, with an expert guide, you’ll traverse the globe without leaving Central Park.
  • Our tour starts in Ancient Egypt, beholding perfectly preserved ancient Egyptian tomb models. See tiny dioramas that show what life was like in the times of Tutankhamen and learn about the fascinating burial rituals of the era. You’ll understand a little more of this at our next stop, Egyptian mummies and “William,” the Met’s “mascot.” Next, onto a prize jewel of the Met Museum, the Temple of Dendur, an Ancient Egyptian Temple right smack in the middle of Central Park. New York City can thank Jackie O for helping procure this magnificent work, as rumor has it, for cultural and personal reasons. Your guide will give the gossip along with the art.
  • More rumors abound at two of the next pieces we see – the armor of Britain’s infamous King Henry VIII, and the Antioch Chalice, purported by some as, ‘The Holy Grail.”
  • We’ll see more ancient works of Greek statuary and Roman frescoes before moving to the exotic, with a stop in Papua New Guinea. The Met houses a number of beautifully carved Bisj poles, collected by a Rockefeller – at the cost of his life. We’ll then head to the second floor to soak in some of Claude Monet’s famous Water Lillies, be energized by the expressive works of Vincent Van Gogh, and be inspired by a bronze of Rodin’s Thinker.

Highlights
  • - meet an expert art-inclined guide, revealing stories behind the masterpieces, avoid getting lost in the vast galleries of the met., hear all the gossip about the antioch chalice., see impeccably preserved ancient egyptian tombs.
  • - excellent for those short on time, those with limited attention spans, and kids!, - get a quick (but thorough) snapshot of the absolute highlights of the met, - join this carefully curated tour of nyc's incomparable metropolitan museum of art, - meet an expert art-inclined guide, revealing stories behind the masterpieces

This specially curated tour takes the highlights and packs them into two incredible hours of exploration with an art-inclined, passionate guide who knows The Met inside and out.

Along the way, your expert guide will show you to works by Van Gogh and Monet, introduce you to some fairly quiet Egyptian mummies, a few stoic statues who traveled all the way from Greece and Rome, and pause at the Bisj Poles... (Bisj, what?)
  • You'll even wander straight into an Egyptian temple. The Temple of Dendur (a highlight for all!) was brought from Egypt and re-erected in its entirety right here in The Met. No matter your background or age, this ancient structure is jaw-droppingly for all.
  • Your expert guide not only reveals the history to these works of art, they indulge your senses and help illuminate each masterpiece you encounter. No one leaves this tour without a deeper understanding and appreciation for art and culture.

  • The vastness of the Met collection is what makes it special, so we’ve carefully planned an itinerary to show you a broad spectrum of art, sculpture, jewels, artifacts, and even architecture.  Traveling in small groups of 15 people or fewer, with an expert guide, you’ll traverse the globe without leaving Central Park.
  •
  •
  • More rumors abound at two of the next pieces we see – the armor of Britain’s infamous King Henry VIII, and the Antioch Chalice, purported by some as, ‘The Holy Grail.”
  •
  • We’ll see more ancient works of Greek statuary and Roman frescoes before moving to the exotic, with a stop in Papua New Guinea.  The Met houses a number of beautifully carved Bisj poles, collected by a Rockefeller – at the cost of his life.  We’ll then head to the second floor to soak in some of Claude Monet’s famous Water Lillies, be energized by the expressive works of Vincent Van Gogh, and be inspired by a bronze of Rodin’s Thinker.

Know Before You Go
  • a coat and bag check is available during the colder months. if you would like to check something, allow a little extra time before and after the tour to do so. , all of the pieces listed in the tour description are viewable the vast majority of the time. however, the met, like all great museums, occasionally allows certain works to travel in temporary exhibitions or be lent to other institutions. , non-flash photography is allowed. however, flash photography and video cameras cannot be used inside the museum. selfie sticks are also prohibited. , the met is fully wheelchair accessible. however, if you cannot climb the stairs of the central entrance to reach the meeting point, there is a ground level entrance one block south, near the intersection of 81st street and 5th avenue. tell the desk you need to use the elevator to meet a group in the main lobby (at the pharaoh statue), which will then secure your entrance ticket. they will provide you with a temporary pass and help direct you upstairs., the temple of dendur is occasionally rented out for private events with no advance notice provided. while usually this occurs in the evening times, closures may impact this tour. in such cases, other works from the egyptian collection will be substituted. even more rarely, the met may rent out select rooms for private events in which the same rule of substitution applies.

Description
  • The vastness of the Met collection is what makes it special, so we’ve carefully planned an itinerary to show you a broad spectrum of art, sculpture, jewels, artifacts, and even architecture.  Traveling in small groups of 15 people or fewer, with an expert guide, you’ll traverse the globe without leaving Central Park.
  •
