  • Tourism has changed a lot of things in the Gothic Quarter, but local institutions do still exist—you just need to know where to look. We'll start our evening at a bar that opened in 1927 and is a much a part of the neighborhood as the nearby churches and monuments are. Here we'll have vermouth and cava—because why stop at one aperitif when you could have two?—paired with cured meats, cheeses and more.
  • Fortified by our first stop, it's time to dig into the history of Barcelona and the Gothic Quarter of the past. We'll start our 50-minute historic walking tour with Roman ruins and work our way through thousands of years of history, uncovering secrets and hidden corners as we go. While weaving through the Gothic Quarter, it will become clear to you that the food we eat in Barcelona today would be very different if not for all the twists and turns the city went through in the past.
  • By now, we'll be ready for more tapas. Our second stop opened in 1945, and has been serving the same four tapas ever since! Of course by now, they've perfected each one, and these bites sum up what Spanish food is all about: fresh, local ingredients that shine with little intervention.
  • On the way to the next stop, we'll weave through Barcelona's narrow backstreets and your guide will bring more of Barcelona's past to life.
  • Finally, it’s time for a sit-down meal at a tapas bar that originally opened in 1935 as a shop selling ice, wine and olive oil. Here you’ll enjoy a selection of traditional Catalan dishes, along with local red wine. Dinner wouldn’t be complete without something sweet, so we'll finish the night with a classic dessert—the Catalan precursor to crème brûlée.
  • By the time we part ways, you'll have seen some of Barcelona's top sights and eaten at the city's most beloved bars. More than that, you'll understand how the two go hand in hand.

But without them the city wouldn't be the same. On this tour, we'll explore a mix of traditional businesses and the ones that are writing that story today, while we discover the real Barcelona through its food.
  • Start your morning at the Santa Caterina Market, a local favorite where the stalls have been family-run institutions for decades! You’ll weave in and out of locals doing their shopping as you learn about their daily customs and traditions. Along the way, you’ll make two stops to try several Spanish cheeses, followed by cured meats—including jamón ibérico!
  • Next we'll head to one of the market's most-loved bars. Open since the 1980s, this is where locals stop for breakfast and lunch while shopping—and that's exactly what we're here to do! You'll enjoy a glass of sparkling cava (the true Catalan way to start the day!) paired with next-level sandwiches featuring treats such as spinach tortilla and spicy Mallorcan sausage.
  • When we leave the market, we'll start exploring the Born neighborhood. One of Barcelona's most iconic, we know it's on your list to visit anyway—best to do it with an expert. Your guide will share our favorite neighborhood haunts and stories with you, including the famous Santa Maria del Mar church, which is the best example of Catalan Gothic architecture in the city.
  • Our next food stop is one of Barcelona’s oldest specialty shops—one of the last of its kind, in fact! Here you’ll taste three of the shop’s star products.
  • After a morning of exploring (and tasting your way through!) the Born neighborhood, it’s time to head towards the fishermen’s district of Barceloneta! Along the way, your guide will highlight some of the neighborhood's most interesting corners.
  • At our first Barceloneta stop, it’s time to practice the art of the Spanish aperitif! We'll visit a local bodega for a glass of vermouth and Barcelona's favorite tapa: the bomba. Considered by locals to be the only tapa ever invented in Barcelona, we'll share its colorful story with you.
  • At our last stop, we'll finish strong with a traditional Spanish lunch! You’ll visit a tucked-away restaurant in the fishermen’s district that's been open since the 1950s. Here we'll enjoy some of the best homemade seafood paella in town, paired with fantastic local wine!
  • You'll leave with an understanding of Barcelona's dynamic food scene, having tasted the dishes that form part of the city's story today.
