Hiking Around Lindos

Summary

The tour hike starts from Vlicha, a sea side village located next to Lindos, on the East coast of Rhodes. At the start of the trail, following mainly dirt roads, we immediately leave behind us the buzz of the busy road. Soon enough, we walk underneath mature pine trees for a while. We then follow a trail that traverses Marmari Mountain from its foothills, visiting afterwards an impressive cave and admiring the remains of an agricultural life. Finally, the hike reaches its highest point, and is time for some amazing pictures of “Navarone Bay” with its deep blue and turquoise colored water. After some walking downhill, we have the first glimpse of the hill where the Acropolis of Lindos proudly stands. The guide will share plently of info about its glorious past. We will then have the chance to go closer, roaming in the narrow streets of the whitewashed village of Lindos. Some free time will be given for visiting the Archeological site and then we will hike back to Vlicha from a different route.

About operator:

Rhodes possesses a unique historical and cultural heritage. Through history it has attracted Minoans, Phoenicians, ancient Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Byzantines, knights, Jews, Ottomans, Levantines and Italians who contributed to its rich cultural mosaic. Nowadays, Rhodes is a popular cosmopolitan destination with natural beauty, mild climate, almost permanent sunshine, wonderful buildings and monuments. Leaving behind touristic development, we discover alternative routes and getaways on the island. Moving away from Rhodes’ much frequented roads, we follow paths that served as the old social and trading network between the villages, paths used for agriculture and livestock farming, paths leading to pilgrimage sites and places of religious devotion. The island’s natural terrain and its unique environment offer exciting routes for cycling, mountain bike, hiking and sea excursions. Combine a rich cultural experience and discover untouched land where the scenery alternates rapidly under the deep blue of the Greek sky, beside charming beaches and crystal clear waters.
