Meet a guide at your accommodations in Cappadocia, then travel to Red Valley, known for formations of pink, red, yellow, and orange rock. Bring comfortable shoes for a 2.5-mile (4-km.) hike through the valley, following a trail through a landscape of fairy chimneys, cave churches, cave houses, and cave tunnels.
Following your hike, continue to the old Greek village of Cavusin, where residents carved churches into the rock, then abandoned them hundreds of years ago. You’ll have the chance to walk up the hill to Cavusin to see the ruined churches, with sweeping views across Red Valley and Rose Valley.
Refuel for an afternoon of exploring with a hearty lunch at a nearby restaurant, then tour Cappadocia’s largest underground city, Kaymakli. Learn about the ancient people who first carved caves into the rock here, eventually tunneling through eight levels of corridors, wells, and rooms carved into soft, volcanic stone.
As you travel back to your hotel, visit two more sites: pause to see the pigeon houses carved into the walls of Pigeon Valley, and take in Ortahisar rock castle, a fortress carved into an enormous chimney rock. This full-day tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
