Meet your guide in Kapaa and head to the launch point on the Hanalei River, where you learn basic paddling techniques and launch onto the river with a partner in a double kayak. Make your way downriver at a leisurely pace, passing through lush tropical forest and open taro fields.
Spill out into crescent-shaped Hanalei Bay, and disembark on the shores for a rest and light sandwich lunch while enjoying views of Makana Peak, also known as the fictional Bali Hai from the 1958 movie South Pacific.
Once recharged, use provided snorkeling equipment to explore the coral gardens of the Bay Reef Lagoon, home to colorful fish and even sea turtles. Climb back in your kayak and try riding the mellow bay waves if you like before paddling to the end point, where a driver waits to take you back to your original departure point in Kapaa.
