Guided tour of the 2004 lava tunnels

Once equipped with a helmet, an individual headlamp, knee pads and gloves, you will walk for 15 minutes on the lava ropes to reach the entrance of the tunnel. During this short approach walk your instructor will give you a description of the landscape around you.

After the first explanations given by your guide, the time that your sight is done in the dark, you will discover a unique universe. Ceilings from which melting dark chocolate seems to flow (stalactites), benches of lava, forests of stalagmites, a "dodo", a "shark" ...

And much more if you let your imagination run wild.

Very often standing, sometimes bent, from time to time squatting you will progress slowly, at your own pace.

After 2 h 00, you will leave this environment of anthracite gray, brown, red and black while having another look at the Piton de la Fournaise.

The lava tunnels in Reunion are becoming an essential activity on the island. There are very few places in the world where it is possible to have such an experience.
