Go behind-the-scenes of the Thai transgender culture

We are a group of young Thais who set up @TravelMe--a local organization which is dedicated to promoting Thai culture and local life through various experiences on Tripadvisor.

Transgender community might be a "sensitive" topic but it is one of the most important element of thai culture. Travelers tend to associate "Lady-boy" with Calypso Cabaret, but it cannot sum up the true story of this community.

We have been grown up with many friends who are brace enough to follow their hearts and decide to undergo transgender process. One of our transgender friends will join this one-on-one conversation experience, and we would like to let you know a true transgender community by sharing their personal stories and efforts made by the whole society to maintain a free and comfortable environment for transgender community.

We will invite one of our transgender friends to join this one-on-one experience. Candy, a young village girl with a big dream, moved to Chiangmai to become a professional dancer. As she said, "Be who you are, not what they think you should be."

Let's Screw the prejudice and mystification of ladyboy/kathoey and delve straight into the real culture and truth of Transgender community. Did you know that there are 18 genders in Thailand, and how to differentiate each of them? Did you know that kathoey don’t need to come out of the closet? Did you know why people living in northeastern Thailand tend to bring the youngest boy up to be a girl? Did you know that special regulations are made by Thai universities to support kathoey even though they have quite strict dress codes?

We will start our experience at a local cafe in Nimman area, where you will get a free drink and a behind-the-scenes talk about Thai transgender culture. Afterwards, we could offer you a special price ticket for Cabaret show if you would like to.
