Why take this tour?

Experience this exciting hiking and ice caving adventure of the Vatnajökull Glacier in Skaftafell National Park! As you arrive at the park, you will meet your professional glacier guide who will lead the way to some of Vatnajökull Glacier‘s spectacular ice caves and tell you all there is to know about the area. This tour includes hiking for approximately 3 hours up on the glacier visiting multiple, relatively small ice caves along the way. You will be provided with crampons for walking on the ice as well as helmets and ice axes. Waterproof clothing and hiking boots are available for rent but it is highly recommend that you bring these items with you on the tour, also food and drinks are not included.

    • Please note that the weather in Iceland can sometimes be too bad for us to operate our tours. When that happens an e-mail is sent out to inform our customers but sometimes it appears in the junk/spam folders so please, especially if the weather doesn't look promising, check your e-mail the night before your tour.
    • The Into the Glacier tour departs from the Arctic Adventures booking hut, located in the parking lot of Skaftafell National Park. Skaftafell National Park is located just off of the main ring road, on road #998. Skaftafell is approximately 4 hours east of Reykjavik and 1.5 hours west of Höfn.
    • Our tours leave promptly at the departure time and no refund will be provided if you are late.
    • It is very important to be properly dressed for this tour with layers for staying warm. Bring with you waterproof clothing, a hat, gloves, and good hiking shoes. At our booking hut in Skafafell, we rent out waterproof clothing and hiking shoes, subject to availability. We recommend that you bring with you a water bottle and food/snacks.
