Roll out of bed in the darkness and be thankful you're not in charge of navigation as you ride from the door of your accommodations to the base of Uluru.
At the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, begin your predawn walk along the 7.5-mile (12-kilometer) trail just as the sun starts to peek over the horizon. Listen to Tjukurpa (creation time stories) and learn of the Mala people along the Mala Walk to Kantju Gorge. Hear stories of Liru (poisonous snake) and Kuniya (sand python) on the way into the Mutitjulu Waterhole.
Stop mid-hike to refuel with a hearty picnic breakfast while watching the early morning light play on the huge monolith. Complete the hike and return to your resort for drop-off.
