It has 5000 year old history, according to Hindu mythology Delhi was founded by the Pandavas and it was known as Indraprastha. But most famous period in Delhi's history is sultunate period. There were five different sultanates which ruled Delhi from 1191 to 1526 and then the Mughals came in power. Delhi is divided into two parts. Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi was founded by fifth Mughal emperor Shahjahan who made it his capital and named it Shahjahanabad. But New Delhi was founded by the Britishers when they were in rule.

Both cities are completely different. So let your local tour guide show you both cities of Delhi.
