Description
Every six hours, up to 400 million cubic meters of sea water rush through the 150m narrow passage. The current can reach speeds of up to 20 knots, creating giant whirlpools up to 10m in diameter. Saltstraumen is one of the Wild Wonders of Europe and this is a spectacular sight that you don’t want to miss out on.
Sea eagle safari and sightseeing
The white-tailed eagle is the largest bird of prey in Northern Europe, with a wingspan of up to 2.4 mtrs. On our way to Saltstraumen, we will make several stops to show you the beautiful scenery and to get close to the eagles. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Our skippers are familiar with the area and will share interesting stories about Bodø and answer any questions you may have during the trip.
Bring waterproof shoes with thick soles and clothes suitable for the weather. We suggest wearing comfortable trousers and warm clothes if it is cold. We recommend that you bring your own mittens and hat if the weather is chilly, but we also have them for loan.
Meeting point: At our floating office in the harbour of Bodø city, just below the "Stormen" library.
