Once you have booked your reservation with TripAdvisor, Garden Island Photography can help you decide on the location that best suits your preferences and group size.  We will then send you detailed directions to the location.  The photographer will arrive early to set up lighting and make any adjustments to the immediate environment that will help create the best photos.  When you arrive, if it is a family portrait, we will help you get arranged in a nice group pose where everyone feels comfortable and looks their best.  If there are multiple families we shoot the individual families next, then couples, individual kids etc.  Our goal is always to make it a relaxing and fun time, like a fun beach outing.  Many families say the photo shoot with us was their favorite experience on Kauai.

Within two weeks of your shoot, we put your photos on a proofing site where you can order prints, or if you select a "digital images" option, you can download the photos directly to your computer.

TripAdvisor only offers a maximum of 15 people in their "number of people in group"; but if you have more people in your group, just select 15 and you can let us know how many there actually are at a later date.  We frequently do much larger groups, especially 50 year anniversaries/family reunions.

Garden Island Photography can also help you fine tune your shoot time to correspond with the sunset.  We know the exact sunset times; and through many years of experience and record keeping, we also know which beaches will have the sun setting on the water on the various days of the year.

Choose from a wide variety of Kauai locations for your portraits or wedding.  Enjoy the relaxing and fun experience of having a true professional help you with flattering poses and lighting, as well as taking candid shots when those special moments happen.  The booking on this site is only one hour, but longer sessions are available.  This option includes a $100.00 print credit when you order prints.  Options that include digital copies are also available through Garden Island Photography.

Our main suggestion on clothing is solid colors (as opposed to busy prints). We want the attention to be drawn to your faces. Everyone matching is good. As long as different colors go together that is fine too. Like all pastels, or all autumn colors etc. With multiple families in a large group shot one good option is to have all members of each different family match each other. A lot of people wear white or off white shirts and kaki or denim pants, they are colors many family members already have, and are easy to match. That’s OK, but I’m more partial to off whites or softer colors than to stark whites. Black pants (or dresses or shirts) can difficult to differentiate from the lava rocks; so if we’re shooting at one of the beaches with prominent lava rocks, another color is better. If you’re wearing very light pants or dresses, and we’re shooting at a rocky area, you can bring white towels from your hotel to sit on. If you have boys, shorts are a good idea, since we will be near water. With women - too tight or very short skirts or dresses can make posing a bit more difficult. Very sheer skirts or dresses can be seen through in back lit pictures, so wearing a slip is a good idea.
