After pickup from your Lisbon hotel, board a private, air-conditioned vehicle destined for the historic city of Évora. During the scenic journey through the Alentejo region, your guide provides a historical overview of Evora’s prosperous past.
Your first stop is Giraldo Square, an architectural amalgamation of Moorish arches, Renaissance fountains and a Gothic church. After capturing photographs, head to one of Portugal’s most famous landmarks: Templo de Diana (Temple of Diana).
Marvel at 14 original Corinthian columns, impeccably preserved and shrouded in history, before arriving at your third stop. The Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) is a nightmarish church constructed entirely from the skulls and skeletons of 5,000 monks, and is also home to two intact corpses. Feel free to omit the chapel from your itinerary if you’re of a sensitive nature.
Satisfy your appetite in an Évora restaurant favored by locals and then ascend Evora Cathedral’s tower to enjoy panoramic city vistas. Proceed then to a local Alentejo vineyard to sample wines grown in the area’s unique climate.
Your final stop is in Arraiolos, to visit the majestic riverside castle and observe the tradition of carpet making, before returning to your Lisbon hotel.
