On this whole-day adrenaline-pumping journey. We’ve been exploring this crazy beautiful and mysterious mountain landscape since we could slip past mum’s watchful eyes. So trust us that to really know Sintra you have to go beyond the walls of its many palaces. That said, it would be rude to drive past the UNESCO World Heritage town and not share a saucy story or two before we dive into the forest.
From untouched lakes to ancient hilltop convents, we’ll pull up at the coolest hidden gems and chase non-stop adventure in Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. In summer, feel the breeze whip your hair as we crawl and bounce along dirt tracks with the roof off. In the cooler months we keep the roof on, turn the music up (real loud) and splash through puddles of mud as we swerve past house-sized boulders, pine forests and giant ferns.
After a damn good lunch at a cheap-and-cheerful village restaurant we’ll direct our 4×4 chariot for the coastline. Feel the sand beneath your feet and dive into the cool, salty sea (if you dare). Our secret beach is surrounded by incredible soaring cliffs. Before the day wraps up, we’ll head for the edge of the earth (or at least Europe) and snap a Polaroid memory.
