Head to the departure point in central Vienna to meet your guide and group. Board a comfortable tour coach, and enjoy the scenery on your way to the Wachau Valley, Austria’s wine-making epicenter.
At Durnstein, a UNESCO-listed medieval town, your guide will tell you its history, give you an orientation, and then set you free to explore independently. Meet your group for lunch (at your own expense) in a local wine tavern, and then reboard the coach to head deeper into the valley. During summer, stop for a Danube River crossing between the villages of Melk and Spitz.
Once you reach Melk, visit a 1089 Benedictine abbey (entry included in winter tours) with panoramic views of the Danube. Stop at a small, local winery for a tasting, see one of the valley’s oldest churches, and then savor a relaxing ride back to your departure point.
