Come and meet the most iconic animal of Lapland! Your guide will drive you in a very small group (never more than 8 people) to one of the most traditional reindeer farms in Lapland. Those family herders are based just outside of Rovaniemi on the lovely shores of a peaceful lake.
Two different tours are possible with a different approach :
(1) You may opt for the first visit of the day at 9:00 : you will visit the farm and learn about the reindeer from the herders. As it is the first visit of the day, you will be given a chance to feed them their favourite food, lichen, which to reindeer is like chocolate! You will also have the opportunity to test your driving skills with a short loop sleigh ride of 400m before having some chat with herders around the fire.
(2) You may opt for a visit with a long safari. During this tour, you will sit in a sleigh pulled by a reindeer and enjoy a 2,5 km ride through the snowy forests and arctic scenery. The reindeer sleigh ride is an old way of traveling or carrying loads. When you come back from the safari, a warm cup and traditional snacks will wait for you on the farm. The herder will explain you about their lifestyle and reindeer husbandry!
