Additional Information
-
Day 1: Melbourne to Hobart
- We will meet you either at Melbourne Airport (if you choose to book the same flight as us) or directly at our hotel in Hobart.
- We will meet up for dinner and to check out the local bar scene.
-
Day 2. Port Arthur
- Today we will head down to Port Arthur, a World Heritage Historic Site that is the best preserved convict site in Australia, and among the most significant convict era sites worldwide. We will spend the day exploring the site's grounds and buildings and learning about its history. At night, we will go on a haunting Ghost Tour before heading back to Hobart.
-
Day 3: Hobart
- Today we drive down to Hobart and spend the morning browsing the stalls of the famous Salamanca market. After that, the group has the option to either spend the rest of the day at Mona (Museum of Old and New Art) or to do a walking tour of the city to visit its landmarks (we can visit the Canterbury chocolate factory or Cascade Brewery as options). We will finish the day catching the sunset at Mount Wellington's magnificent lookout.
-
Day 4: Freycinet National Park
- Freycinet National Park is home to dramatic pink granite peaks, secluded bays, white sandy beaches (including the iconic Wineglass Bay) and abundant birdlife. Today we will make our way to the National Park and do the hike down to Wineglass Bay, where we will have a picnic and (for those brave enough) a swim.
- After our hike, we will head up to Launceston, where we will have a scrumptious dinner at one of the local restaurants.
-
Day 5: Launceston or Cradle Mountain
- Cradle Mountain is a place of exceptional natural beauty in the heart of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. From moss-covered ancient rainforests to deep river gorges, the park is renowned for its breath-taking landscapes.
- Today we will do an amazing walking track that covers a big part of the first day of Overland track. The track is 9.2km long and will take you through Ferntree gullies, moss-covered plains, and rocky cliffs before climbing up to a fabulous lookout.
- After our walk, we will visit Mole-Creek caves and marvel at their amazing sparkling crystal formations and glow-worm colonies before heading back to Launceston.
- Those that need to leave early back to Melbourne will have the option of staying at Launceston to explore the city and enjoy a cruise in Cataract Gorge.
