South Coast and Glacier Lagoon Day Trip by Super Jeep from Reykjavik

After hotel pickup in Reykjavik, board your super jeep: a 4x4 specially modified for Iceland’s challenging terrain. Then, set off southward, taking in the rugged landscapes and hearing about Iceland’s geology on route.

Stop first at Urriðafoss on the Þjórsá River, one of Iceland’s widest waterfalls, and then continue to Seljalandsfoss. This majestic waterfall draws many photographers and features a path that takes you behind the rushing cascades.

Take a detour from here to see the nearby canyon waterfall of Gljúfurárfoss, and then travel on to Skógafoss, one of Iceland’s most-visited falls.

Admire this spectacular waterfall from below, and then head to the south coast to view its black-sand beaches. Take photos of Dyrhólaey, a rocky coastal arch that’s a sanctuary for seabirds such as puffins, and visit Reynisfjara, a black beach famed for its lava-columned Reynisdrangar cliffs.

Back aboard your 4x4, explore Vík, Iceland’s most southerly village, with its white hilltop church and rustic cottages; and then journey to Fjaðrárgljúfur, a 328-foot (100-meter) deep ravine. Admire the rocky gorge, and move on to Skaftafell, a spectacular mountain region fringing the Vatnajökull Glacier.

Enjoy a short walk along the glacier edge at Svínafellsjökul, viewing the glacial tongues and seeing how areas of black sands and craters suddenly open onto huge walls of white and blue ice.

Lastly, stop at the glacial lake of Jökulsárlón, one of Iceland's and the world’s most incredible beauty spots. Formed by meltwater from Europe’s largest glacier, this otherworldly lagoon is characterized by icebergs that shine white and blue as they drift slowly on the water.

Soak in the ethereal sight of the lake and listen out as the overwhelming sense of calm is broken only by the sound of icebergs colliding and tearing.

Finally, return to Reykjavik where your tour finishes with a hotel drop-off.
