Make your way to a tour office in Matapedia village, where a guide will go over the day’s itinerary, and you'll be fitted with all the equipment you’ll need, including wetsuit, life jacket, and snorkeling gear. When you're ready to go, begin the 30-minute trip to the Kedgwick River or the Matapedia River.
Two tour options are available:
If you opt for the 6- to 8-hour “Mouth Watering” package, head to the Assemetquagan and Millstream areas of the Matapedia River. The "Supreme" package is on the Kedgwick River, and while both tours are perfect for exploring, the longer, 8- to 10-hour “Supreme” package offers a better chance of spotting big salmon.
On either adventure you’ll learn proper river snorkeling technique from the guide, with the option to swim in calm water, or practice your skills in the rapids. After a few hours in the water, trade snorkeling gear for a boat and pull into the current, paddling roughly 6 miles (10 km.) downstream. Steer your boat to the side of the water for a hike to a waterfall, then stop for a lunch of healthy, locally-produced foods including pasta, cheese, fresh vegetables, smoked salmon, and wraps.
This full-day river tour concludes with return transfer to Matapedia village, and drop-off at the original departure point.
