Description

Experience one of Iceland’s most spectacular winter adventures with a guided glacier hike and natural ice cave tour in Skaftafell, located within Vatnajökull National Park. After meeting your certified glacier guide at the Skaftafell meeting point, you’ll travel a short distance to Falljökull, an outlet glacier of Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull.

Following a safety briefing and equipment fitting, step onto the glacier and begin your guided hike across dramatic icy terrain. Explore crevasses, ice ridges, and frozen formations while learning about glacier movement and the unique environment of Vatnajökull.

The highlight of the tour is visiting a naturally formed blue ice cave. These caves develop each winter and are constantly changing as the glacier moves, making every visit unique. During your visit, you’ll have time to explore the cave and capture photos of the incredible blue ice formations.

When that happens an e-mail is sent out to inform our customers but sometimes it appears in the junk/spam folders so please, especially if the weather doesn't look promising, check your e-mail the night before your tour.
• The Into the Glacier tour departs from the Arctic Adventures booking hut, located in the parking lot of Skaftafell National Park. Skaftafell National Park is located just off of the main ring road, on road #998. Skaftafell is approximately 4 hours east of Reykjavik and 1.5 hours west of Höfn.
• Our tours leave promptly at the departure time and no refund will be provided if you are late.
• It is very important to be properly dressed for this tour with layers for staying warm. Bring with you waterproof clothing, a hat, gloves, and good hiking shoes. At our booking hut in Skafafell, we rent out waterproof clothing and hiking shoes, subject to availability. We recommend that you bring with you a water bottle and food/snacks.
