El Cajas National Park
El Cajas National Park is located in the Western Cordillera of the southern Ecuadorian Andes, just 35 km. of Cuenca and in the northwest direction.
Its altitude ranges from 3,156 to 4,450 meters above sea level. It covers an area of 288 km2 (28,544 ha) and includes a lacustrine complex of 235 glacial lagoons connected to each other by streams and streams. Its temperature ranges from -2ºC to 18ºC.
In the park are sites of archaeological interest, including several sections of the QhapaqÑan (Camino Real Andino) that connect the coast with the sierra and, in pre-Inca and Inca periods, served, among many other purposes, for the circulation of the shell Spondylus, object of high economic value of the time.
This tour starts very early in the morning. It combines a walk across the mountain with Sport-Fishing.
The sporting fishing is allowed at the Cajas National Park. It is illegal to use nets, gas, dynamite, mullein, among others.
We provide the fishing equipment. The fish found in Cajas National Park is the rainbow trout.
After a full day fishing we will drive you back to the departure spot in Cuenca.
