During this activity our local expert will show you and explain the geological evolution of Costa Rica and its most important volcanic aspects. This trail combines Basaltic Andesite lava rock fields and patches of regenerating forest, where you can find animals which have been recolonizing these specific ecosystems. The distance of the hike will be according to the group needing. It ranges from 1 up to 4 miles (6.44 km) long pathways.
Arenal Volcano is geologically our youngest summit with approximately 7000 years old according to geologists carbon dating test studies within this period Arenal has alternated different active and calm periods.
On July 29th 1968 after approximately 400 year of calmness, locals suffered one of the most devastating volcanic eruptions ever seen before, which generated casualties, death and economical disasters. Minor eruptions took place until 2010 becoming little by little La Fortuna village one of the most attractive destinations in the world.
