Begin your day trip with a pickup in central Sofia and travel for by air-conditioned minivan with a driver-guide to Plovdiv, Bulgaria’s second-largest city. When you arrive, embark on a walking tour of the city’s sights. Explore the cobblestone streets, cafes, and art galleries and learn about Plovdiv’s history from your guide. Stroll through the house museums and monuments in Plovdiv’s Old Town and hear about its restoration. Pause to take pictures of Thracian, Roman, Byzantine, and Bulgarian antiquities and observe the Plovdiv Regional Ethnographic Museum and the Roman amphitheater.
Take a lunch break at a local restaurant (own expense). Continue on by minivan to Koprivshtitsa, a town with 19th-century architecture. Walk through the town and learn about the Liberation of Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War. Visit some of the town’s famous homes.
