Start your tour with an optional early evening pickup from your central Reykjavik hotel, or alternatively, meet your guide at a central location in the city. Hop inside your comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, and gaze out at Iceland’s lava-coated landscapes as you travel east to the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths.
Along the way, listen to the live onboard guided commentary about Iceland's volcanic geology and geothermal springs: warm, natural pools of water heated by underground volcanic rock.
On arrival, head inside the stylish Fontana complex, sitting on the shores of calm Lake Laugarvatn. Change into your bathing suit, and then use the time at your disposal to bask in the three interconnected outdoor mineral baths. Dip into the different pools as you wish — each has a different depth and temperature — and soak in the peaceful lake views as you relax and revitalize.
If you wish, enjoy a spell in what’s known as the ‘Gufan;’ three steam cabins filled with steam that seeps naturally up from the ground below. Enjoy the soothing powers of the steam, and then, if you’re feeling adventurous, take a dip in the pure, cold waters of the lake — reached via a nearby platform. Switching from the warm steam and pools to cold water is believed to benefit the circulation, and release toxins.
If you’re lucky during your visit, you’ll be treated to the perfect evening conditions, with the midnight sun shining bright across the sky.
Finally, after ample time to enjoy Fontana’s facilities and setting, change back into your clothes and reconvene with your vehicle. Then, enjoy a scenic detour around Iceland’s stunning southern countryside before returning to the capital.
Your experience concludes with a hotel or central drop-off in Reykjavik just after midnight.
