Montserrat with Cogwheel train, Tasting in a Boutique Winery with Tapas or Lunch

Make your way to the departure point in central Barcelona, and then head to the Catalonian village of Monistrol de Montserrat. Board a cogwheel train for a ride to Montserrat Monastery, taking in views of the countryside as you ascend to the towering summit. 

Upon arrival, sample local food and drink such as coca de Montserrat (a sweet pastry) washed down with homemade liquors. Learn about the site’s religious history dating back to the 11th century and explore the grounds both with a guide and on your own.

Head back to the bus for a quick drive to a wine cellar located in a 10th-century castle. Opt for multi-course meal followed by a wine tasting and cheese platter, or choose to enjoy your wines paired with tapas (select upon booking). Both options include a tour of the cellar and three organic wines.

Visible from Barcelona, Montserrat makes for an obvious day trip—both for its religious significance and its culinary tradition. A cogwheel train handles the hairpin curves on the way up to the summit, and your guide makes sure you see the best of each site. Plus, this tour includes a visit to Montserrat Monastery and a 10th-century wine cellar with wine tastings and food pairings. A tapas-style or 3-course lunch is also provided for your convenience.

The tour leaves from Plaza Catalunya, 21 (by the Hard Rock Café) – look for the pink umbrella.
The tour departs at 10:00 am (meet strictly at 9:45 am).
There is a limit of 16 people per guide, although transportation will be shared with other groups.
Comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended as there is some walking involved.
Temperatures in Montserrat and the winery tend to be more extreme than in Barcelona. Please check the weather forecast the day before and dress accordingly. We advise bringing water, especially in the summer season.  
Infants aged 3 or less may join the tour free of charge, but note that no car seat or meals are provided.
