Receive a pickup at the Hamburg port timed to the arrival of your cruise ship. You’ll then transfer for a drive through the German countryside to reach Berlin.
Spend the next several hours discovering the German capital with the aid of a private guide. Start with an introduction to Berlin’s transformation from a sleepy trading center in the medieval era into the modern-day capital of a reunited Germany. Head to Museum Island, the home base for some of the city’s best art and culture, and visit the Brandenburg Gate.
You’ll also have the chance to check out the “Reichstag,” home to Germany’s parliament, and learn about Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930s. Proceed from there to the Berlin Wall, revisiting the era of a divided Germany following World War II, and stopping by Checkpoint Charlie.
Throughout the day you’ll travel aboard a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, enjoying plenty of time to get out and explore each sight. There will also be a break at midday for lunch (own expense) at either a traditional bakery or a classic German restaurant which serves favorites like sauerkraut and schnitzel. When your Berlin visit is finished, return by car to Hamburg, where you’ll be dropped off at your ship at the Hamburg port.
