This full day tour will take you along the Dordogne River to discover some of the most beautiful medieval castles the region has to offer. The castle of Castelnaud, Milandes, and Marqueyssac will be on your itinerary and some of the most thrilling scenic stops will also be offered.
First visit the mighty castle of Castelnaud
In the morning, by Carsac-Aillac and Montfort depart along with the Dordogne valley. First, visit the mighty castle of Castelnaud. Built on a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Périgord Noir, the castle of Castelnaud offers a magnificent panoramic view over the Dordogne Valley. This medieval fortress is erected to face its rival, the Castle of Beynac.
Then amdire Milandes castle & gardens, known worldwide thanks to Josephine Baker
Built in 1489, this charming castle with its magnificent Gothic features is a great example of Renaissance architecture. The castles remained the undisputed home of the Caumont family until the French Revolution. In 1940, the entertainer Josephine Baker rented the Château and then bought it in 1947. Awarded “Maison des Illustres” in 2012 by the French Ministry of Culture, the castle of the Milandes devotes its rooms to Josephine Baker, the most famous resident of the 20th century.
End the day with the Gardens of Marqueyssac, the most visited garden in Dordogne
Finally end the day with the visit of the Gardens of Marqueyssac: listed as a National Historical Monument it offers more than 6 kilometers of shaded paths, edged with 150 000 hand-pruned hundred year old boxwoods.
