Edinburgh Old Town Historical Walking Tour

A truly wonderful experience! Marisol was excellent, friendly, and engaging, capable of making the tour interesting and pleasant from beginning to end. We discovered so many interesting facts about Edinburgh and its history, in a truly pleasant atmosphere. We took two tours with them and it was absolutely worth it! Highly recommended experience for those who want to get to know Edinburgh in a different way and with a prepared and passionate guide. 😊

To the boss: give the Canary Islander a raise! Truly a tour that sparks interest in learning about the deep history of this city. He not only explains the history of Edinburgh with enthusiasm, but he lives it. You can tell he loves what he does and he does it with humor and charisma. There are many guides who tell you stories and give you facts, but few like this one manage to captivate you in the history and immerse you in the city.

The city tour with Gavin was absolutely fantastic! Gavin was incredibly friendly and likeable, and his open and humorous personality made the tour really enjoyable. In addition to lots of fascinating and interesting facts about Edinburgh, he also gave us some great recommendations for pubs, museums and shops. The tour was very varied. We heard different stories about people from Edinburgh, learned interesting facts about the city’s historic buildings and landmarks, and explored many different aspects of Edinburgh’s history. What we particularly appreciated was that Gavin provided clear historical facts and a good chronological context, explaining when important events happened and how they were connected. The tour went into real depth when it came to Edinburgh’s history and gave us a much better understanding of the historical events, rather than just giving us a general overview. Overall, the tour was both entertaining and genuinely informative. Thank you, Gavin, for such a great experience! We would definitely recommend this tour!

Old Town Walking Tour with Gavin! After a lovely breakfast at our hotel, The Bonham, we headed out to experience Edinburgh the best way possible—on foot, wandering through centuries of Scottish history one cobblestone at a time. The weather was perfect for exploring: partly cloudy with temperatures in the mid-60s. Our walking tour carried us past the imposing Edinburgh Castle, perched dramatically above the city; the magnificent St. Giles’ Cathedral, whose walls have witnessed some of Scotland’s most pivotal moments; and the striking Scottish Parliament Building, where the nation’s modern story continues to unfold. We also visited Makars’ Court, where Scotland honors its greatest writers and poets. The word “makar” is the old Scots term for a poet or creator—a wonderfully fitting tribute in a city whose literary voice has influenced the world. Our tour guide, Gavin, made the experience even more enjoyable. He was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and quite entertaining—bringing Edinburgh’s history to life with fascinating stories, colorful details and a wonderful sense of humor. Edinburgh is a remarkable blend of ancient stone, royal history, political change and brilliant storytelling. Around nearly every corner, another alleyway, building or monument reveals a new chapter. It is one thing to read about history—but something entirely different to walk directly through it. What a fascinating and memorable morning in this extraordinary city!
