DIY workshops using Vietnam traditional handmade paper.

Summary Description

Zó is a social enterprise with the mission of preserving and developing Dó paper – the traditional paper of Vietnam.

Appearing in Vietnam during the XIII century, Do paper is manufactured through a painstaking process requiring up to 100 steps. While having much cultural and historial signficance, the skilled craft of making Dó paper is at risk of being lost as modern society continues to lose touch with traditional culture.

Zó hopes to reinvigorate the traditional practices with the contemporary uses of this timeless craft. We are not only seeding creativity by encouraging design of both practical and artistic products made from Dó paper but also orgabizing events and workshops that familiarze young generations in Vietnam and all over the world.

Description

What will you get from our workshop:

- Get to know the history, papermaking process of traditional Do paper of Vietnam.

- Listen to the story of Zó Project as a social enterprise.

- Will be guided to do one product from Dó paper then bring home later.

"Zó project was by far the best part of our trip to Hanoi. This all-female led social enterprise is dedicated completely to preserving the ancient traditions of dó paper making and to supporting the muong village people. We had so much fun and felt like we were taking part in a much bigger experience. There was a workshop to suit all kinds of ages, and it was really atmospheric to sit on the railway line and make paper while the locals came by to watch and ask questions and share their own stories. The girls have done a great job of taking the traditional paper and turning into contemporary products for souvenirs, everything was great and everyone was so respectful"
