Learn to prepare an authentic North Indian meal with Shikha. Your cooking lesson will take place at the dining table rather than in her kitchen due to space constraints. Using a portable cook top, Shikha will demonstrate how to dishes like chana masala (chickpeas cooked in her special spice mix), dal tadka (cooked lentils, tempered with oil or ghee, spices and herbs just before serving), jeera aloo (potatoes with cumin seeds) and boondi raita (yogurt served with gram flour fried balls). Some elements of the meal will be prepared in advance.
During the cooler winter months, Shikha will begin the cooking experience with a barbecue. You will learn how to marinate paneer (fresh Indian cheese) and cook it in a tandoor, an outdoor clay used for baking and cooking. Enjoy the meal you helped prepare with Shikha while discussing Indian culinary and cultural heritage. Leave with new recipes, a new friend, and lifelong memories.
Please note, this experience is not a professional cooking class or tour, rather it is meant to be a visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
