Day Trip to the Embera Indian Village

Begin with pickup from your Panama City hotel, then travel to the jungle in a private car. Upon arrival in the riverside town of Corotu, board a dugout canoe for a trip up the Chagres River, where you’ll find jungle waterfalls, lush vegetation, and diverse birdlife.

Keep exploring on foot: watch for wildlife on a hike through the jungle, with time to cool off and swim in a natural pool. After the hike, continue to the Embera village for lunch, and to meet a local artisan who will demonstrate local basket weaving and sculpture techniques.

This is the perfect time to learn more about daily life in an indigenous community, as locals share stories about how they hunt, fish, harvest, and treat illnesses. Watch a series of three Embera dances before you make the return trip downriver, where you can shop for local souvenirs in Corotu. At the end of the day, make the return trip to your Panama City hotel, where this tour concludes.

This Embera tour includes an upriver ride through the Chagres River and the Panamanian Jungle. You will hear directly from the Indians what their life is like: their hunting, fishing, harvesting, how they treat illnesses and much more. Experience up close the Embera Indian traditional dances and see how they produce their body paintings, woven baskets, plates and masks. Walk through the lush and exotic jungle to see an abundant variety of wildlife and birds. You will walk by a clear cascade and will be able to have a dip in the pond.
