Watch for birds and big game on a viewing drive that takes in the shoreline and surrounding landscape of Lake Nakuru park, which is surrounded by acacia and euphorbia forests. 56 species of mammals thrive in this small national park including white rhino, waterbuck, and warthogs. Masai lions, cheetahs, and leopards stalk the area, and great pythons can be seen dangling from trees at the edge of the forest. The most striking image of Lake Nakuru, though, is the staggering population of flamingos that cluster in the warm water of the lake, feeding on blue-green algae. Other birds include the distinctive African fish eagle, Verreaux’s eagle and the Goliath heron, the largest heron in the world. After a day of exploring the park, set out for Nairobi between 3pm and 4pm, then finish the day with drop-off at your Nairobi hotel between 6pm and 7pm.
