Day Tour: Tibet Drepung and Sera Monasteries

Summary

At 9:30am, greet your guide in the lobby of the GangGyan hotel, located in central Lhasa. From here, you’ll make the 30-minute journey to the Drepung Monastery and learn about the complex’s rich history along the way.   Hear about when the monastery was closed down due to the incitement of a violent protest, visit the former residences of Dalai Lamas, and discover the scenic temples, caves, and pagodas scattered across the colossal grounds. Then, you’ll continue to 15th-century Sera Monastery, known as the home of the debating monks, to watch raucous debates between novice and senior monks on the doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism.    Your tour concludes with drop-off at your original departure point at around 5:30pm.
