Get an early start on the day with an early morning pickup at your Cusco hotel, where you’ll meet your personal driver-guide, and start the trip to Andahuaylillas. The 16th-century Jesuit church of San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas was built on top of a sacred Inca site, and has a beautifully-preserved nave, apse, and bell tower.
Continue to the Inca archeological site of Raqchi, where you’ll explore the ancient Temple of Wiracocha: towering walls are the only remnants of the enormous building, which is believed to have had the largest single roof in the Inca world before it was destroyed by the Spaniards. Drive into the highland town of Sicuani by mid-day, and pause for a buffet-style lunch at a local restaurant.
Following the “Route of the Sun” to its highest point, you’ll top out on La Raya Pass at 14,232 feet (4,338 meters), whose sweeping views stretch into the neighboring valleys. At 3pm, make the final stop of the day at the archeological site of Pukara, with time to discover the site's fascinating, little-known history, ruins, and beautiful views of the Cusco valley.
Finally, stop at the Sillustani, and enchanting necropolis surrounded by beautiful landscapes and Umayo lagoon. Marvel at the chullpas (stone towers), built by the Incas to bury their dead.
Your one-way, full-day tour then concludes with arrival in Puno, where you’ll finish the day with drop-off at your hotel.
