Get an early start on the day with 5am pickup at your hotel in San Salvador, and relax on the journey to Honduras—this is the perfect time to catch a nap as you travel across the countryside.
Upon arrival at Copán, you’ll begin a guided tour of the archeological site. Copán is arranged around a central Acropolis with plazas, pyramids, ball courts, and monumental altars dedicated to ancient Maya gods. The 328-foot (100-mt.) wide Hieroglyphic Stairway Plaza is considered one of the greatest structures left by the Maya civilization, with a single inscription that contains a series of 1,800 glyphs. See images that tell stories from a dynasty of 16 rulers who brought Copán to power during the Classic Maya Period. Explore the elaborate stelae and altars that surround the plaza, then look beneath the surface at the Acropolis, where the largest archeological cut in the world exposes the remains of several successive plazas.
At the end of your Copán tour, make the return trip to San Salvador, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
