Begin your tour with hotel pickup from San Salvador. Then, head to the first of three volcanoes: Cerro Izalco. Follow your guide on a 45-minute hike through the coffee plantations and cloud forest of Cerro Verde National Park en route to the crater, where a panoramic view of the surrounding volcanic line awaits. Continue to Santa Ana Volcano for a chance to see a dwarf-forest landscape distinct to Mesoamerica, followed by a trip to Coatepeque Lagoon at the summit of Cerro Verde. In the afternoon, visit the UNESCO-listed Joya de Ceren archaeological site to learn about daily life among the Mayan people who once lived there. Because the ruins were preserved by ash, they are sometimes called the “Pompeii of the Americas.” Your tour concludes with a visit to the San Andres ceremonial ruins and hotel drop-off.
