Chichen Itza, Cenote, and Valladolid Tour

The whole tour was great. Our guide Rafael was such a good person and very helpful. We had so much of fun.

This was my first time to Mexico. This trip made me love the culture and the country. My trip was on September 1, my tour guide was Cesar bus 61. The only negative was the wait for the bus at the beginning of the day. The tour did not pick up at my hotel, I walked 2 minutes to the Comfort Inn Cancún Aeropuerto. After waiting 30 minutes, I message the tour company. I was told that the bus was on the way. I waited some more. I contacted company again, told the bus is late. Then I received a message a few minutes later that a van would be picking me up. After 70 minute wait, van picked me up and took me to a bus. Now for the good stuff. Our first stop was a Mayan village visitor centre. Before we arrived there, Cesar taught us how to the Mayans counted and told us about the Mayan calendar. Explained that 2012 was misinterpreted as the end of the world, when in reality it was an end of a cycle. He showed us a Mayan calendar based on his birthdate, similar to a horoscope but based on Mayan culture and place in time. I ordered one for myself and my son who was not on the trip as a gift. The calendars were made by artisans in the village. Upon arrival at village, Cesar described and explained everything that we saw. I was surprised that the Mayans cooked meat in the ground the same way that the Tainos cooked meat in the ground in Jamaica. We learnt about obsidian and it's importance in Mayan culture. I learnt where obsidian came from and its usage for the Mayans. A Shaman was there assisting. He learnt about dreamcatchers and how obsidian protect us. Then we went into the gift shop. I bought a few items. Now we were on the way to Chichen Itza. Silly me did not know that Chichen Itza is one of the new 7 Wonders of the World. Cesar gave us the option to walk around by ourselves or with him. A group of us went with him. Cesar is so knowledgeable about his culture. He explained all the wonders of Chichen Itza. The Mayan culture is highly intelligent, amazing architects, amazing astrologists. We went into the shade and there is not much shade there. Cesar asked if we wanted to continue to tour with him or go off on our own. Those who left missed Cesar's knowledge of this place. On the way to the Cenote the air conditioning in the tour bus was not working. The driver turned it off, went outside and tried to fix it. Cesar said that he called for a new bus to come get us from the Cenote. Next stop was the Cenote. The cenote was amazingly refreshing after the extreme heat of being in direct sun at Chichen Itza. I swam for a while then went to the delicious buffet at the Cenote. Cochinita Pibil at the buffet was amazing. The air conditioning on the bus was fixed by the driver. I unfortunately do not remember his name. He took his break and ate the buffet then he went to work on the bus. He was able to get the air conditioning working. The next stop was a village, I do not recall the name. We learnt about the different types of tequila and sampled quite a few of them. Then it was the return back to Cancun. I had asked Cesar if the van that will be picking me up from the bus can drop me off directly at my hotel inside of walking in the dark from the Comfort Inn. The van driver dropped me off at my hotel the Hyatt Place Aeropuerto Cancun. This was a remarkable day and will be etched in my memory. Cesar and the driver are incredible and should be highly rewarded. The tour company that Viator used was SAT Mexico Tours. I will definitely tour with that company again.
