Bogside History Walking Tour

This was a fantastic tour with a guide who ‘lived’ the events and location of the background to and details of Bloody Sunday. Jimmy dealt with a difficult member of the group with empathy. She clearly had preconceived opinions and could not accept the information from our guide. We would recommend this tour. A group who gets Jimmy as their guide is most fortunate.

Peter as our guide was incredible! His knowledge and information was a gut-wrenching but amazing tale of the city, its history in the Bogside and Bloody Sunday. While this was hard history to hear and process as a US Citizen who never heard this all while growing up during the time, it was so deep and informative. Worth every minute, don't miss this one!

We took a walking tour of the Bogside with Bogside Tours on a three-day visit to Derry on September 10th. It was the highlight of our stay thanks to Paul our guide. His in-depth knowledge and measured telling of the story of Bloody Sunday gave us a vivid depiction of the injustices and shameful state cruelty suffered by the people of Derry. We did the tour today with Jimmy, and honestly, it was an experience that will stay with us for a very long time. Jimmy was an incredible guide — so knowledgeable, engaging and informative — but what made the tour particularly special was how personal it was for him. You could feel throughout the entire tour that this wasn’t simply history he had learned and memorised. These were stories, places and experiences that carried real meaning for him and for the people of Derry. There were moments when we genuinely became emotional. Hearing the stories in the places where they actually happened, and hearing Jimmy speak about them with such honesty and feeling, made everything feel incredibly real. At times, it was difficult not to feel overwhelmed by the human side of what we were hearing. We walked away feeling deeply moved. We came to Derry wanting to understand more about its history, but Jimmy gave us something much more than facts — he gave us an insight into the people, the pain, the resilience and the personal stories behind that history. You could see how much this means to Jimmy, and that came across in such a genuine and powerful way. His warmth, passion and honesty made the experience incredibly special. We honestly cannot recommend Jimmy highly enough. If you’re visiting Derry, do this tour. It’s not just a history tour — it’s a deeply personal experience that will stay with you long after you leave. Thank you, Jimmy, for sharing something so personal with us.
