Pause for lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant and tuck into some delicious Turkish cuisine, before continuing to St John’s Basilica, famed as the burial site for the Apostle John. Next, pay a visit to a local carpet-making cooperative, where you’ll have chance to witness the age-old Turkish craft, and see examples of how Christian influences have been woven into the intricate designs.
There’s just time for one more stop before the return journey – to the site of the Temple of Artemis, which was once one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
After a full day uncovering Turkey’s biblical past, return to Izmir, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel or cruise port.
