Best of, Zagreb - Croatia's Capital in a day, Full Day Trip from Ljubljana

Summary

Small group approach with carefully planned time, where experienced local tour operator’s chauffeur guide will collect you at designated location for an informative two hour ride to Zagreb. Upon arrival to Zagreb experience the rich history and the beauty of living in Zagreb on guided tour. Let us start with a walk through the streets of the city, up to Zagreb funicular, the shortest urban funicular in the world, that will take us to Upper Town to enjoy the views from view point or ones from Lotrščak Tower – midday fired cannon to mark the time. Zagreb's Upper Town (Gornji Grad) is a network of little streets that stretch between two hills: Kaptol and Gradec. It is a delightful place to explore Zagreb rich history and state buildings, including parliament. St. Mark Square is emblematic of the upper town and of the city of Zagreb. In the centre of the square is St. Mark church, famous for its roof representing the arms of the Tripartite Kingdom (Croatia, Dalmatia and Slavonia) and those of the city of Zagreb. Proceed along the old wall through Great Stone gate, called Kamenita Vrata, where miracles happen. According to legend, a great fire in 1731 destroyed every part of the wooden gate except for the painting of the Virgin and Child. People believe that the painting possesses magical powers and come regularly to pray, light candles and leave flowers. Next we’ll stroll around Kaptol historically ruled by priests to see strong Catholic presence with the symbol of the city, the Cathedral of St. Stijepan and its fountain with four golden angles. We’ll stop at Dolac,  the most visited and the best known farmer's market in Zagreb, well known for its combination of traditional open market with stalls and a sheltered market below, where you can find local products like fruits, cheeses, meats… During your free time cross the main Sq of Ban Jelacic, and get to the Lower Town (Donji Grad), where you will have many options to visit any of the museums or galleries. Green belt of parks will reveal important Croatian cultural institutions. After a nice full day experience we will return back to Ljubljana after two hours drive. Drop off will be at same location as pick up.
