Your morning starts with morning pickup from your Marrakech accommodation. Travel to a Berber produce market in an air-conditioned minivan, and choose fresh ingredients for your meal of tajine or couscous (vegetarian options are available). Drive into the foothills of the High Atlas Mountains, where you meet members of a local women’s cooperative who make Moroccan oil and herbs in the Ourika Valley.
Meet Malika, a grandmother and experienced cook, in her family home, then spend the day in her traditional kitchen—the driver-guide remains with you throughout the day to assist with translation. Prepare a hearty, 3-course lunch using recipes that have passed from generation to generation of Malika’s family. Cook using earthenware tajine dishes over a majmar, a charcoal-burning brazier.
Sit down to the 3-course meal that you’ve prepared with Malika using aromatic spices and local produce, then spend the afternoon learning about daily life in a Berber household. Find out how the family prepares sweetened glasses of mint tea, bakes bread in a traditional oven, and milks their cows. At the end of the day make the return trip to Marrakech, with evening drop-off at your hotel.
Note: This cooking class is available on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, to coincide with the Berber food market.
