During the journey to Mutianyu, listen as your guide shares intriguing background about Beijing and this famous, restored section of the Great Wall. Originally constructed in the 6th century and rebuilt in the 15th century, the section centers on a 1.5-mile (2.5-kilometer) stretch that was fully restored in 1986 — creating a perfect replica of the 15th-century Ming-era fortifications. Learn how this segment is famous for its densely spaced, original-style watchtowers that stand along a mountain ridge about 328 feet (100 meters) apart. On arrival, view a map with your guide to familiarize yourself with the different routes and options for exploring. Then, make the round-trip journey to and back down from the ramparts using your pre-booked cable car tickets (depending on option selected).
