Atlas Mountains Camel Ride Adventure

Really enjoyed visiting the argan cooperative and the hike up through the Imil valley and waterfalls. Was super cool trying fresh walnuts. The food after the hike was exceptionally good. Alongside other tourists we felt that the camels were very mistreated and it was rather uncomfortable seeing the abuse from their “owners”. This left a sour taste to what was a super interesting and enjoyable day out.

We had a great experience with Redouane. Pick up was on time (9am) at the Tazi hotel. We had 4 other couples with us in the van. Made a few stops before the first experience in a traditional hut where women made argan oil. They offered us breakfast (bread and 3 different types of syrup) and mint herbal tea. You can purchase their products of you want (skin care, perfumes...) with a credit card as well. We then moved on to the main experience, a short hike to the imlil waterfall: it is an easy 25 minute walk, along the stream/river, not very steep. At the waterfall you can purchase a fresh orange juice. You are offered some more tea and nuts (you walk between a grove of walnuts) on the way down, then you head to the restaurant for lunch (70mad each). You can choose between vegetable tajin or chicken tajin. After lunch (around 3pm) we headed to the last experience (I thought it was dull, but the others had fun) which is the 15 minute camel ride (you're about 20km south of Marrakech). They offer traditional outfits for you to wear during the ride and give back afterwards. The highlight here was one of the nice people looking after the camels: he offered to take videos and photos of you during the ride. He even added some local music while shooting the videos. He was very passionate about it and made me appreciate the experience. Give him a tip once the ride is over. He deserves a new nice phone to develop his talent. We were back downtown Marrakech around 5.45pm. Redouane was discrete and fun, he shared some interesting insights from his culture and had great English. I cannot recommend him enough. The driver was excellent as well. Thank you!!!

This was an incredible tour that we would recommend to anyone. It was fantastic value for money and just the right duration. Fatima was an unbelievably good guide - everywhere we went it felt like she was liked and respected. She seemed to have a genuine love and passion for where she's from and took a lot of joy in showing us the culture. It's hard to pick the best bit out of such a diverse and fun day! Two things in particular to mention; the man looking after the camels genuinely loves his animals and takes amazing care of them, and also the food we had for lunch was the best tagine we had in Morocco. Of the different trips we took in Marrakech, this was by a long margin the best. Thank you Fatima!

This was a great day! Our driver/guide, Ismael was prompt. He was knowledgeable and pleasant. We first went for a camel ride which was fun! Then we went up into the Atlas Mountains and had a Berber breakfast of delicious bread with honey and mint tea. After this we went to see the women make argan oil. Afterwards we met Rachid who was our guide for our hike to the waterfall and lunch. He was excellent!! Told us all about Berber life. After lunch we returned to Marrakech. This was a great day trip and I think a great value.

I highly recommend this activity to discover the High Atlas. We were able to ride camels, visit the cooperative, and then go on the hike leading to the waterfall. A big THANK YOU to Abdou Ahansal for his patience, his understanding, and his accessibility. Bonus point for the organization, our guide and his driver arrived on time, which allowed the day to run smoothly.
